The lesson was to start with viewing distance, content size and room conditions, not with a screen size someone fell in love with at a trade show.

Scenario 2: Flexible, curved, or frequently changed layouts

The second scenario is where physical flexibility matters. Multipurpose rooms, trade shows, retail pop-ups, curved architectural elements. If you need a wall to wrap around a column or change shape between events, flexible screen LED panels can be the right call. I've seen them work well when the radius was measured, the content was mapped before purchase, and the mounting structure was engineered for that exact curve.

Here's where my experience runs against popular advice: buying flexible just in case is usually a waste. A flexible screen LED costs more and can have more failure points than a flat LED wall. If you cannot name the specific surface you need to wrap and the date you need to deploy, a flat panel or a rental arrangement is the lower-cost option. The most flexible screen is one you do not own until you need it. I audited a project where another company paid an 18% premium for curved-capable panels and never used the curve. The panels worked fine; but they paid for a road they never drove.

Scenario 3: Mission-critical control rooms and 24/7 operations

The third scenario is mission-critical: control rooms, security operations centers, hospital command, network operations. Here, downtime has immediate consequences, and service level matters more than sticker price.

I will be transparent. When our security operations team needed a new video wall, we received a Planar quote and a lower alternative from another integrator. The alternative was about 18% less upfront. I was on the fence for days. What to compare after you know your scenario

Then I ask what exactly is included: mounting, cabling, electrical, network, calibration, content mapping, training, spare parts, and warranty.

A single-line quote that says “complete video wall” is a red flag.
